Panic attacks impact the lives of millions of people around the world. They live with the constant fear that they will have a panic attack while in public, or while in a situation where they cannot quickly obtain help.
The worst part, though, is that many of these people never seek panic attack treatment. Some of them believe that no help is available; others think that panic attack treatment methods are simply ineffective. Still others are embarrassed by the prospect of seeking treatment – they are afraid that their doctors will dismiss their concerns, or worse, that they will see them as just “crazy”.

Keep in mind, though, that each of these types of medications can also cause side effects, such as irritability, weight gain, sexual dysfunction, and sleeplessness. You might have to try a few different medications before you find one that eliminates your panic attacks without causing other problems.
Counseling is also frequently used as part of an overall panic attack treatment program. Through counseling, you can learn how to identify the root causes of your anxiety, and place them in the proper context. By addressing these core causes, you can eliminate the effect that they have on your life. It will usually take some time before you experience the effects of counseling, though – if you have dealt with panic attacks for years, it will probably take several counseling sessions to get to the root of your anxiety.
Exercise is also an important part of a comprehensive panic attack treatment routine. When you engage in physical activity, chemicals are released in your brain that will promote calm, tranquil feelings. In addition, physical exercise releases muscle tension, which further reduces your overall tension – allowing you to attend to your day to day tasks in a confident, calm manner.
Finally, there are several forms of meditation that will help you reduce the harsh effects of panic attacks. Traditional meditation, which is often coupled with deep breathing techniques, can be quite effective for reducing anxiety and stress. If you find that you are unable to sit still for extended periods of time, yoga or Tai Chi can be equally effective – these are essentially forms of “moving meditation”, which give you the option of combining physical activity with comforting, mind calming movements.
As you can see, there are numerous strategies which can be used as part of your panic attack treatment. It may take you a while to find the right combination for you; however, when you finally develop your own optimized treatment, you will soon find that your panic attacks are a thing of the past!
